Help ASAP w/ Street Twin...balance problem!!

Ok, I just want to verify this, the clutch that I bought is the McLeod Street twin assembly. I put it all together and the engine vibrates like crazy (not bad at idle, but terrible at 3K + RPMs). I told the guy I needed it for a stock LT1 assembly which should be external balance. Well, I didn't bother to check and see if there was a weight on the flywheel or not and now I have to pull everything back apart to see what is up.

What should a stock LT1 flywheel from McLeod look like??? It SHOULD have a counterweight on it correct??? I don't remember seeing the one the flywheel that is in there having a counterweight on it.

Anyways, so I guess what I should do is take the flywheel to a shop and have it NEUTRALLY balanced is that correct, or would I ZERO balance the flywheel for a stock LT1 balance application???

Thanks

I've had a Street Twin in my basement for over a year now, never got around to installing it. My clutch is shot now so I'll be doing it soon.

There IS a counterweight on the Mcleod flywheel. I researched when I first bought it and read that you have to have the Mcleod flywheel balanced with your stock flywheel. I called Mcleod and spoke to a tech guy there and he agreed. I have a friend who has an extra flywheel laying around so I'm going to take his with my Mcleod flywheel to the machine shop soon.

You would only have the flywheel zero balanced if you had your bottom end zero balanced.

Hope this helps?

You don't need it balanced. The counterweight goes in the A position on the flywheel. Got it figured out with the McLeod tech guy.

Yeah, on the backside of my flywheel there are 4 screw holes. Two screw holes line up with the 'A' position and the other two screw holes line up with a 'C' position. Perhaps yours isn't like this???

Dustin,

You should be able to put that on by just removing the inspection cover. I took mine off like that before. Should save you alot of time from taking everything back off.

Yepper, already did that. She's all balanced correctly and runs well...so well in fact that I just busted the ring gear in the rear end.

Thanks
