help 96z28

I was working on 1996 chevy camaro z28 w lt1 350.. new to the newer (lt1) engines......

What I was doing was removing dampner on crank to replace the front crank seal(leaking).. upon looking noticed we had broken th elower vent tube on th eoptispark... so I took a lil piece of brass tubing(brake-tranny line) and cut a small piece to stick in the opti spark cap hole where it broke an dthe piece which brok eoff to connect the hose.. then re connected th ehose and finished seal install..car starts runs good.. but now th efactory tach stopped working, can you PLEASE HELP me figur ethis out?.. didnt touch anything else.. wiped off the opt with arag..but no other stuff done....would that affect the signal to the tach by fixng the vent>??.. or i sthe opti maybe going bad, still runs perfect..?..Im ne wand lost to lt1..old school.... and I am unsure what went wrong. If you caould help and have no prob with returning the favor to you in some way somehow.

Rick

Should not be related. Something else happened to cause this.

The tach is driven off pin A13 of the PCM, white wire. If the engine is running, the PCM is getting the RPM data from the Optispark, and the tach should work. Nothing you did should have affected the tach.

You don't have to close the thread..... just let it sink to the bottom of the list. Posting the solution was helpful, in case someone else has the same problem and does a "search".
