I put the new motor in this weekend. Having trouble getting the car running. When I start the car I have to have my foot on the gas and it takes a little bit for it to start, but when it does start I can only keep it between 3K and 4K RPM's.

I scanned the computer today, and pulled trouble code 43 ESC Module or Scensor circuit problem. WTF???

What is this and any ideas on what to do to fix it.

 

My 94 manual says that is the Knock Sensor. Try replacing the module first. I think the codes would be the same but I'm not totally sure. Is your engine knocking at that rpm range?

 

You may have left your knock sensor disconnected.

 

I was just gonna edit my post and say to check the circuit for an open connection. There should be 5 volts at the sensor terminal with it disconnected.

ok, just got done checking the knock sensor... i do have five volts at the plug wire... do you think the knock sensor is bad??? if so when changing it, this maybe stupid but is their an oil galley or water jacket behind it??? just want to know for sure...

also is their any way to check the sensor by its self???

 

ok did a search and found the info i was looking for about testing just the sensor... the sensor is bad i will replace tomorrow and retest...

You can check the sensor with an ohmmeter.

Key OFF. Connector off. Measure the resistance between the KS terminal and ground. Resistance should be between 3300-4500 ohms. If it is not, the sensor is faulty or the sensor is not making good contact with the block.

There is a water jacket behind the sensor. Coolant will come out when you remove the sensor.

 

I put the new Knock Senso in last night... When I went to start the car it di the same thing except i could get it to run a little long know... I have a feeling that my timing chain is of just a little... Is their an easier way to check this without having to tear the front of the car apart...
