Need advice on rear end, 12 bolt? 10 bolt? HELP please

As everyone can see from this post:

The bearings in my rear end are dead. There is also a pretty good chance that it took the gears with them.

http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...9&goto=newpost

I need to find something new and I don't know what to do. It will cost me 500-600ish to rebuild my current setup with new lower gears and all new bearings including axle bearings. However I hear that the 10bolts suck anywayz, so what are my options, I don't want to buy anything used, so how much would a new 12 bolt with 3.42's cost? What all must be replaced?

Your help ASAP would be GREATLY appreciated, any ideas please, I can't really drive my car right now because of this.

well 3 options

1) 12 bolt or 9" for about $2100.

2) Ford 8.8" can be made for under $500. I believe I heard of one guy doing it for under $200 I am not sure what all is involved to do this though.

3) stick with the 10 bolt and don't launch hard. Power and tourqe doesn't kill 10 bolts. Launches and people kill 10 bolts

Well crap, I had no idea the 12 bolt would be that expensive....

I have an auto, without a stall.....is it likely that rebuilt 10bolt(If i fixed my current setup) would ever fail again with an auto?

What about with drag radials and a stall?

There are plenty of people on this board 7's (some low 7's in the 1/8) with auto's and 10 bolts running slicks. You will likely be good with the stock rear and a girdle etc...

I'd say go w/ the 12 bolt or 9 in. If you look around you can proably pick one up for around 1800 on a gp sometimes. Or try to find one used, this is what I'm going to try do find.

Anything over 500 is completely out of the question. Serious budget here. What is the girdle, just the back pan only stiffer? If that will help, I will definetely get one of those when I put it all back together.

Yeah...it replaces your rear cover....i'd go with a solid pinion spacer too...replaces the crush sleeve. Those would strenghthen it alot.

I think it's $20 at thunderracing. It's supposed to keep the pinion from walking on the face of the ring gear.
