helo with oil pressure

Well I replaced this piece http://shbox.com/ci/oil_pump_drive.jpg

Now the oil pressure guage is absolutely pegged the farthest it will go (past 80 psi). It doesn't even flucuate, it just stays pegged.

Anyone have an idea on what is wrong?

Re: helo with oil pressure

can you put on a mech oil gauge to double check the oil pressure?

Re: helo with oil pressure

sounds like you either pinched the wire to the oil pressure sensor or unplugged it

Your guage, wiring or something is grounded, ahead of the sender. Your guage is obviously good or it would not peg.
Unhook your sender,if the guage comes back down there is something going on with the new sender. If it stays pegged there is either the wire or the sender side of the guage is grounded.

Actually it's the opposite on the 4th gen. If the sensor is unplugged or wire broken, the gauge will peg. If it is grounded, the gauge will read zero.

You probably knocked the wire off to the sensor when you were doing your recent work.

Mine's doing the exact same thing, but only when I rev it up. At first it wasn't coming back, but now it goes right back down after I let off the gas....

Better check your's with a manual guage to see IF you have low pressure.

What you said is the way the gauge always worked on the the older GMs I have worked on. For some reason, it's not that way on our cars.

Re: helo with oil pressure

But it seems like I have pressure.. because the gauge reads / functions normally all the time besides when it is at 90psi.. when its not at 90, its doing all the normal things it did before.. dropping down a bit when the car has been idling for a while, creeping up slowly as I slowly increase engine rpm, etc. Do you really think I could have low pressure?
