heater hose question....

Im taking the heater hoses off my the LT1 in my s10 and was curious if i need to connect the 2 fittings on the water pump or if i could just put a rubber cap on each fitting.

Put a rubber cap on each fitting.

The LT1 cooling system is designed to provide a constant flow through the heater loop, whether the heater is being used or not. The flow restrictor in the hose controls how much flows.

I've seen people cap them or loop them. I don't know that anyone has had any real trouble either way.

I have the original SAE paper on the LT1's reverse flow cooling system design. Something tells me they put that constant flow there for a reason, but its probably 5 years since reread the paper.

why ask then?

I bought a 92 corvette pump so I would have less inlets/outlets to worry about. It only has one port so it wouldn't be possible to loop anything in my case it doesn't seem like. So I was going to cap off since I have no hoses to loop. I'm not sure how that would effect the cooling yet.

yes....if you're not careful about it.

makes sure you let the car cool down though!

loosen the petcock on the radiator and let it drain for a while then remove the hoses at the pump with a catch can under it. that should help control the major mess area.
