Heads and intake swap(first time)LT4
Heads and intake swap(first time)LT4
Ok my car got a blown head gasket because of a faulty ewp.The car overheat only once but that was enought. It begin to drink a lot of coolant, white smoke, and collant smell. But since i installed the new gear driven pump it has never overheat again(in the middle of the first and second mark on my stock gauge) and doesnt take oil.
So im again about to do something that i ve never done before(just like everything that i ve made on my car).Im about to take off the(lt1) heads and intake to change the gasket and clean up everything while im there.
I will be changing the heads/intake with some brand new lt4 heads and lt4intake(i got a good deal on those). Before everyone start telling me that i should have made my stocker ported read this.Im putting those on my stock shortblock, stock cam etc.The key is to run the car like that for a couple of years and have fun and lower my mortgage(first house). After that i will have enough money to take the whole engine out and built a better engine with those lt4 components(stroke, ported, cam).
With that said i ve got questions:
-When it comes to parts the only thing that change is that i need an LT4 head gasket and LT4 intake gasket instead of the lt1 one...right?
-The rest of the gasket/bolts/parts are identical between an lt4 and lt1?I mean the lt1 egr valve will connect to the lt4 intake, the lt1 valve cover will fit the lt4 head?
Here is my new part list, could someone tell me if im missing something and maybe could suggest me some brand, part number for some parts.
Parts:
-LT4 intake(got it)
-LT4 Heads assembled(got them)
-Head bolts(arp but could nt find part number)
-Arp 7/16 rocker stud
-GM guide plate
-Comp Cam Hardened pushrod(what lenght?)
-Comp Cam Pro Magnum 1.6 full roller NSA
-1" arp stainless steel headers bolts(already got them)
Will reuse the bolts for intake, egr, fuel rail and all the rest.
Gasket:
-LT4 Head gasket(wich one, oem or felpro or ???)
-LT4 intake gasket
-Felpro 1406 Headers gasket(go them)
-egr gasket
-Gm valve cover gasket(got them)
-TB gasket
-Injector seal
-I ve read this somewhere:GM cylinder head to coolant gasket(whats this one ???)
Remember that i ve never done this before and i just dont want to miss something. So if you got any tips or comments feel free.
Thank you all

Head bolts: ARP 134-3701 (12 pt head) or ARP 134-3601 (hex head)
Pushrods: Valvetrain geometry should always be measured after the heads are installed, but 7.2" pushrods should do it in theory.
Headgasket: Felpro 1074's
Last gasket you speak of are the coolant line steam pipe seals, you need 4 of them: GM part# 10108689
It sounds like you've got a whole bunch of cash into that car already, and you're spending alot as it is... why not *at least* put a hotcam in it... the difference is only going to be about $200 over the several thousand it already appears you have spent.
Doesn't make sense otherwise.

For the cam, the real truth is that i am a little afraid to do it because it dont know "how to do it" or parts involved?Maybe with a little bit of your help i could do it...
Because for 200.00$ of course i will trow a cam in it
