heads/cam swap need help???

any body know if I could put a head/cam swap into my 94 camaro z28 lt1 that will out run a supercharged cobra/z06 vette. I'm looking for a streetable car but just something simple to outrun these cars. Something that will give me enough power to smoke a supercharged cobra. I have all the bolt ons,m6 4:!0 gears. What kind of heads/cam should I go with

Smoking a cobra is no easy task, you are talking a car that runs deep into the elevens to 'smoke' a cobra. That can be done on a max effort heads and cam car, but don't think it will be very streetable. Now if you want to be faster than a z06, you can do it, but alot of the race will depend on traction. Lloyd Elliot does some good packages, and has a few people in the mid to upper 11s with some seemingly small cams, so I would imagine if you can setup a car with the LE2 package and good suspension, you would definitely give a z06 a good run until the upper speeds where the vettes superior aero starts to come into play.

It could probably be done, keeping it streetable gets to be an issue though, have you considered NOS? I'm not a big fan of it but I think it might be something you should consider if you really want to outrun the cars your mentioned.

Re: heads/cam swap need help???

I don't think there's any "simple" solution for outrunning cars that make 400-500rwhp with boltons or are much lighter stock. IMO if you buy a package to outrun a specific car or buddy, that's the wrong way to go about it. Figure out what your approximate budget is, your goals, and which one of those is top priority & you should be able to get something that will ultimately make you happier, and be a superior value

Outrunning those guys is doable, but not only will the topend have to be great, but the intake, exhaust, assembly and tuning will also have to be spot-on, and this is an area where most people inadvertently handicap themselves in my experience.

As mentioned above, n2o isnt something I'm particularly fond of, but a good solid topend that is sufficient 90% of the time could certainly be bolstered by a little dope & probably take care of most of that other 10%. Of course when you begin pushing a stock shortblock into the 600-700hp range, you may want to start saving or buy a beater
