Heads/ cam....a bit confused.....
I am trying to decide what cam to go with. I am getting heads ported and bigger valves, springs, etc.....I see alot of posts for custom ground cams.....with my port job that I will be getting...what are the hp advantages of a custom cam? I was looking into the XE 230/236 but now I am reconsidering......if I can obtain more hp and torque with a custom cam, I would go that route. Can someone clarify this a bit more? TIA....
IMO, at this point in the game, you'd be foolish not to have your heads flowed and have a cam matched to the headflow and the use of the car. The additional cost is fairly insignificant, and the results much more predictable.
Just my $0.02. When I build my stroker, I plan to heed my own advice this time.

A custom cam will be well matched to your heads, and power stands a good chance to completely overshadow any off the shelf grind. Plus, a competent cam designer will be able to give you what you want I.E. driveability, powerband, top end, more low end power, ect.
Joe Overton and Brett Baeur or something like that come to mind.
