Heads cam or 355?

Well I was reading the other thread "355 v 383" and I was thinking, is there really a difference between a 350 and a 355? I know that when you build a 355 you are freshening the engine up, but when you bore it .30 over will those 5 cubes make a difference power wise? Essentially, isn't a 355 just a heads/cam car?

You can put heads/cam on your stock engine and you'll have a 350. If you rebuild your engine, bore it .030" over to clean up the bores you will have a 355, regardless of what kind of heads and cam you have.

5 Cubes really does not make a difference The other changes you make in a rebuild such as compression, heads, cam, etc can and do make a change.

Yeah a 355 CAN be better than a stock bottom but the 5 extra cubes do little for that, compression and how you go about gettinf it are more important.

Heads are where you get your most power. If you have a really tired motor it might benefit from a clean-up that building a 355 would provide.

I'm not sure I would want to do heads/cam on a high mileage car when you might have to dig into the motor later anyway.

It's a catch 22.
