heads+cam= change headers?
heads+cam= change headers?
hi guys
im in the process off putting p&p heads + a c306 cam in my 95z. would i see a noticeable gain going from my current 1 5/8" mac headers to either as&m or slp 1 3/4" headers? MAYBE hooker lt's, thats a big maybe though, cause id prefer one of the other two. im assuming my setup should be good for about 430-450 crank hp, so would those macs actually be enough of a bottleneck to need to switch? any advice is appreciated guys. thanks

Yeah, you should see a huge change. Check out my sig, it's an awesome combination, you will really like it.

not completely out of the question though
i went through lots of searches over the last couple of days and "supposedly" the as&m's will perform just as well as the lt's for my setup. + they got the emission stuff and better ground clearance. is your car lowered by the way? thanks.
You brought up a couple of good points. The LT's are not smog passable (not a problem as there are no emission ***** here), and the ground clearance. Mine is not lowered and I have about 2-3 inches of clearance from the header collecter to the ground. The ASM's I think are 3/4 headers and people who have them are very happy with them. You would probably sacrifice a small amount of low end torque compared to the LT's but you would not have to worry about emissions or ground clearance.

to get another set, id have to sell mine first. theres no doubt in my mind that ill see more of a gain with the 3/4 headers, but enough to make it worth it? i dunno. IF i end up keeping the macs, i will get it dynoed with them, and then maybe change them during the summer or even next year and know for sure the difference. problems
I am in the process now of doing afr 190's with a cc306 cam in my 94. I just ordered a set of MAC midlength headers. Now that I read this thread I'm starting to worry, are these headers really gonna be holding me back that much?
I've posted before and people have told me that these headers are gonna be great for my package.

I know we've made over 475hp on a stock shortblock with 1-5/8" mac shorties and full SLP 2otl exhaust... they're not that bad.
If you can afford to go with long tubes, go for it... otherwise I'd probably leave it alone as opposed to swapping to another shorty.
