Which heads are better?

I'm new to this and I'm going to buy new heads for my 95Z and I've been told that the only after market heads that are available are the Edelbrock (available 06/29/03)$1110 pair which claims to give 25 more HP out of the box ..........I've also been told about the LT4 heads that are $1331.90....don't know the rated HP increase though.....and if I did that I prob want to go with the matching intake also.......I'm also considering buying a mild computer friendly cam..........does anyone have any experience with these heads and possibly anything extra I might want to do them.........I got about 2500 bucks I can spend and i'm not sure what I should do first......Any advise would be appreciated.........

I believe the new Summit catalog has an entire LT4 topend conversion for $2300.

From what I've read of the Edlebrock heads, they aren't worth it. Not only do LT4 heads and intake flow better than stock, they have great potential when porting.

It sounds like you're not too worried about making a ton of power. In which case, you most certainly don't need an aftermarket casting - the stock casting has more than enough potential for most people's needs. Also consider that most parts that come in stuff like that is going to be cheap stock replacement type stuff, whereas you could actually run nicer stuff if you had someone go through your production LT1 castings.

ported stock LT1 heads are plenty good enough, but if you don't believe it, AFRs are pretty cute. my ported LT1 heads with stock size stainless valves were good enough for 100mph+ in the 1/8th

put that $1100 into porting from Lloyd Elliot or Phil Odom and you'll be way better off. I wouldn't touch aftermarket heads unless I was trying to run mid 10's or better.

I went with ported LT1 heads done by Lloyd Elliott. For basically the same stuff as the LT4 topend kit, it cost me about $1800. That's the ported heads ($1150), Comp 230/236 cam ($250), Comp Pro Magunum rockers ($260), and gaskets ($110).

So, a better cam, better heads, better rockers, better springs (The LT4 springs are not going to be safe for anything bigger than the LT4 hot cam, and even then are iffy). An all-around better setup for less.

Another vote for Lloyd Elliot..Two members of my club have gotten their heads done by him and they are HAPPY... The stock castings, ported with big valves got one member 275I/190E at .600 or .650. That's serious flow!

Add a nice cam, rockers, springs, and clean up the intake a little, *maybe* a bigger throttle body and you'll be spanking most hotcammed cars.

Take the money that's left over and spent it on some slicks, drag radials, or nitrous for an even bigger boost!

buy a top-end package from phil (advanced induction ) or seth ( combination motorsports )

or have lloyd port your heads, and buy a cam setup seperately.

im positive you would be happy with either choice.

dont waste your money on the LT4 conversion.
