Heads

I just got on craigslist and there are some heads for sale. They came off a 96 impala ss. I have a 97 lt1 block that came out of a trans am and I want to know if these heads will fit. Was there much difference between the lt1 for the f-bodys and impalas? Thanks guys

Re: Heads

They will bolt on, but they are cast iron, not aluminum like the F-Body and Corvette heads. They actually flow better than the aluminum heads, but can not support as much ignition advance as the aluminum heads. They would also be harder to port. And they add a bunch of weight to the front end.

Re: Heads

Thanks, I was really just wanting to know info about them because the guy is selling them for $100. I'm building a motor and whatever I can find that people are selling, i'm buying. I'm not on a budget but I still have to save funds for it.

Re: Heads

You can find aluminum heads for around $100 if you look hard enough. Those iron heads aren't worth it to me, IMO.

Re: Heads

The iron heads also don't have screw-in studs like the aluminum ones do.
