Headers,y-pipe, o2 extensions, oh my! I'm lost!

I know this has been asked a million times before, but I just read through 100 pages of posts and I'm still confused.

Ok, so I'm lost when it comes to choosing a set of headers. The car they would be going on would be a 97. I know that I want LT's deffinitly, and pretty much all LT's give the same amount of power gain. My trouble is that there are several different companys offering headers with different options.

What would be the optimum set of headers/Y-Pipe for a 97?

Some added info, they would be going on a mostly daily driver. So keepin the EGR/cat/AIR would probably be best.

Will I need extended O2 sensors to run LT's? I think I read that from a previous post.

Jethot headers and you can get them emissions legal!

most header companies offer emissions compatible headers. bolting the AIR and EGR back up is the easy part. getting a Ypipe that has cats is not, nor is it cheap.

however there are several that make them. just shop around. maybe give the tech line at thunder or tbyrne a call.

yes you will need wire extensions for your 02 sensors. those are readily avialable through most places that sell headers.

stainless steel is the best, doesn't rust. however it is very $$$

standard steel is fine, and ceramic coating is well worth the cost to keep temps down and possibility of melting things down. most companies now offer this as an option. or send a set of headers to jet-hot for coating.

You will need two 24", 4 pin flat connector type extensions and two rear o2 simulators (4 pin square connector) if you need to pass emissions. If you don't, you can get the rear o2s programmed out, but you will need the extensions either way.

They are also a big job to install. Unless you have a lift in your garage.
