When you do the header swap, you're practically taking off the Cat anyways. If you can look through the honeycomb, you're probably fine. In Cali, I would recommend the MAC Off-Road Pipe with fasteners for quick removal. That way, you can drive "to the track" and swap in the Cat at any time.

I know a fabricator who can fix it up for you...

But if you're glowing red, it is likely from over-scavenging in the exhaust or ignition not firing the mixture.

a Y-pipe is included in the TES headers that i bought, so i dont think there's really a need to get a new Y-pipe, but thanks for the info Wild1. i would love to get the high flow CAT, but my financial situation do not support me......anyways, i'm going to buy a used opti for $120, hope that's a good deal....thanks

Yep, the TES should come with a y-pipe. If you scroll down on that link, you'll notice an Off Road Pipe (used in place of the cat). That way you don't have to bash the cat out (gutting). You can put it on and off whenever you please.

Technically yes. Officially, any tampering with emissions equipment could be trouble.
