Headers....SLP, RK sport or MAC

Hello, I have narrrowed the choice down to the following three types:

SLP 3/4 coated primaries coated ($750.00 with bad plug access)
RK sport 3/4 primaries coated ($450.00 with bad plug access)
MAC mid-tube 5/8 primaries coated (650.00 with good plug access)

I definitely want coated headers and I would like to have 3/4 tubes but dont want the bad plug access. Points for MAC.

I would like to in the future go LE2 package and I know that would work better with 3/4 tubes. Points for RK sport and SLP.

I dont want to spend a fortune. Points for RK sport.

Im leaning toward the MACS because of the easier install and plug acsess.
Do you guys think there are performance disadvantages with the 5/8 tubes with nearly stock engine as well as LE2 package and can someone explain how hard it is to get to the plugs on the RK's and the SLP.
Time for everyone to brag on their headers.
I DO NOT WANT long tubes so please dont go there.
Thanks

Re: Headers....SLP, RK sport or MAC

I have RK's and am pretty happy with them. But MAC's are also a great choice and have been proven to support 400rwhp (Dr Mudge did it with AI heads/cam).

If I had MAC's, I'd probably be just as happy - especially with the improved plug access

It will be either the MACs or the SLP, the MACS are $150 cheaper

MAC mid-tube 5/8 primaries coated (650.00 with good plug access)

I'd go with the mac's, you can't beat the price plus the plug access is awesome.

The MAC mids have a very good reputation on this board.

Re: Headers....SLP, RK sport or MAC

I've had great results from the Jet Hot coated MAC mids after I welded shut a small hole in the collector that was there from the factory.

I've had them for about 13k miles and they've held up well. The plug access is awesome, and I haven't had any problems with the header bolts loosening, and I just used the standard ones that came with the headers.

For the header gasket, I recommend Mr. Gasket Ultraseal's, or Felpro's. The copper ones that came with the headers didn't seal as well for me.

Re: Headers....SLP, RK sport or MAC

If you absolutely want or have to have mids/shorties I would go with the MAC's. I have heard nothing but good things about them. I had a set for my car and was going to install them but my friend needed some really bad so I sold them to him.

Just like romoranger said. Do it right the first time and get some longtubes. You will never have to worry about upgrading you headers and they work great. In a stock car you wont see much of a gain from a mid to a longtubes. But once you do any type of head/cam package you will need the LT's. I saw you wanted to do a LE2 package. Talk to Lloyd, those numbers he advertises are with LT's.

Re: Headers....SLP, RK sport or MAC

If i were to do long tubes, I have a few questions.
1. Can they drop in throught the top, cause I dont have lift access?
2. Is it possible to run a cat, got a vert and dont want the smell.
3. How much ground clearance do you lose, not dropped.
