If I did anything other than the 3.73s Id do the 4.11s since Im hearing they are alittle stronger, I just need to check with the shop Im using to see if theres a big price diffrence.

My SS with the factory 10 bolt has had 4:10's in it since it had 6000 miles on it, its got 73k miles and its still kickin strong with no problems

Just make sure that you break the tires loose before you break the rear-end.

replacing tires > replacing rear end

i vote for gears also. You will see a little difference going from shorty headers to LT headers but not near as much going from stock manifolds to LT headers. You will see a bigger gain by going from 3.42 to 4.10's or 4.11's. I would say that 3.73's might be ideal if you had a turbo and wanted to keep it streetable. I would suspect that 4.10's would shorten the time that the car remains in full boost.

How much does the gas mileage suffer from switching to 4.10's?

Gears. But not 3.73. Motive makes 3.90's if you don't want to go 4.10.

I wouldn't even mess with the 7.5" 10 bolt... Save your money and put something sronger back there...

I'd agree, if my stock auto and some bolt on's can shear gears, the M6 wont sweat doing it to some thinner ones.

I agree with this even though I went with gears earlier on in my modding career. Hindsight is 20/20. Headers vote here.

we all know how 10 bolt's break...high rpm clutch dumps and of course with an auto: hard launches. I've seen 10 bolts hold up pretty well, and I've seen them break it is a crap shoot.

They are a setback with our cars, but fortunately there are ways around it. It's just not cheap. I prefer to just rebuild/re-gear my 10-bolt myself instead of shelling out the dough for a ford 9 or a moser...However, I would very much like a moser or the ideal ford 9

+1 for LT's

Well theres no way I can afford a whole new rear end. When I race I run street tires at the track anyways so I dont see there being enough traction there to break and Im not one to just dump it.

Headers, since you already have 3.42s (M6?).

If you had 2.73s...gears no doubt, but headers right now.

Throw me into the headers camp. Long tubes are one of the best single mods you can do that will improve the fun factor, plus it's pretty much a necessity to further mods. I also vote to save money on the rear right now. These 7.5s aren't worth messing with.
