Smile Headers or gear, what would U do?

I have just enough money to do either gears or Pacesetter long tubes. The car currently has 3.42 factory gears and Edelbrock shorty headers. Which would I get the most bang for the buck from? Its going to be awhile before I can do anymore mods to the car so I need to make this one count. I thought about leaving the shortys and adding a random high flow catted Y pipe later on. Opinions please.

gears, + installation

don't forget about hooking up the long tubes to existing piping or replacing extra piping

Gears plus installation is $500
Headers alone with Y pipe is $500+ shipping and me installing.

without having any idea what you already have done to your car i would say headers as long as you have a cat back already

is the car automatic or 6 speed? Im assuming 6 speed, if so, get some 4.10's or 4.56's thrown in there

6 speed with edelbrock shortys and Borla cat back, nothing else done. Im staying away from the 4.10s cause Im worried about breaking the rear.

well if you already have shorty's although they are not worth much they are worth something. get the gears first, and dont be afraid of 4.10, you have six gears for that

I would go with the gears 1st. The install is alot cheaper too.

Is there a big diffrence between 3.42s and 3.73s? I may consider the 4.11s.

I think going from 342's to 373's is ALMOST pointless. You will get some gain but it doesnt make any sense to me to pay the same amount of money and get less performance.

Yeah, you'll see a substantial difference from going to 3.42's to 4.10's, dunno about 3.73's.

Just make sure to get some traction, because that's the most important aspect of a gear swap.
