Header and plug question

I have all bolt ons and I am looking at headers and a tune up while I install.

Anyone ever had experience with jet hot long tubes?

If I run a offroad y-pipe with no cat on a 1994 lt1 will i need any sort of o2 trick plug or anything?

Best gasket and bolt set? not going overboard

Also, what plug and wire combo is best for a bolt on car? I am not looking to spend a fortune just get a reliable performance setup.

Last question, is it recommended to replace opti at the same time. I believe it to be original opti to 107k.

Re: Header and plug question

If it ain't broke don't fix it. Stock GM wires are better quality than most i've seen. For header gaskets, get percys seal-4-good gaskets. They are great quality. Here is the website:

The AC delco plugs are good, also NGK plugs are awesome. As far as the opti, I wouldn't replace it unless it's giving you headaches. Wait until your water pump starts to leak on it and then replace both. Again, if it ain't broke don't fix it!!

Re: Header and plug question

Well, I have a very different opinion on GM wires. They're better than Autozone wires but not much. You can do much, much better. After a lot of research I went wih Magnacor...your research may be different.

For header gaskets, I used the stock GM's. Worked fine for years only failing when the header bolts backed out.@#$%^!

For header bolts after the originals backed out I went with Stage 8 locking ones. They use a mechanical lock against the header tube and can't back out.

You don't need any modules or anything with the '94 O2 sensors. Just screw a set of Delphi sensors into the headers. I would stick the old ones in the headers for a week or so because the Jet Hot coating seems to foul them as it cures. Use AC Delco or Delphi O2 sensors only....Bosch are junk.

I have Jet Hots and I doubt I would again. The coating is lifetime warranteed but that doesn't mean it'll last for ever. Mine were about a year old when I noticed the coating flaking off. I removed them, sent them back and got them recoated. Pain in the tail to remove and reinstall. Well, about two years later they flaked again...and rust is underneath. Starting over I would probably go with a stainless steel header and get that coated. Uncoated headers lead to pretty high underhood temps so I'd still go with coated...

NGK TR6 plugs will work well. I stay far away from the stock plugs because the (previous?) design had a puck of platinum on the ground strap that could fall ff giving a big plug gap.

Your opti could last for years and be fine. Don't just change it fro the sake of change. However, the cap and rotor are tune up items and you should consider changing them.
