Header install in progress, broke something (did search)
Hello,
I'm in the process of installing headers on to my car, and on the drivers side when I removed the manifold I broke some white sensor thing. It seems like it screws right into the motor and has an electrical fitting. Does anybody know what this is?

sounds like the coolant temp sensor. located in the clyinder head, between the first and 2nd cylinder on the driver's side. has 1 wire going to it
if that is what you broke, dont worry about it. they are usually in stock at just about any auto parts store and dont cost much

yeah, quite a bit of coolant will come out, even after you drain the radiator. if you want to avoid making a mess, you will have to drain the block/head from the plug under/behind the drivers side motor mount after draining the radiator
IMO its easier to just pull and change the sensor without draining the system and just let it make a mess

you try to jack up the driver side of the car right before you change it. That might help with spilling, not going to be as easy to reach though.
Re: Header install in progress, broke something (did search)
somebody else did the same thing about a week ago. It was the exact same question with the same answers. I kept looking at the date thinking this can't be right. Anyways, hook up a funnel to a piece of tube that runs to your drain pan you put under your car. Pull the sensor out and let it drain. Then put the new one in.

If it plugs into the block, bout halfway down you may have busted the oil pressure sending unit. VERY common with header installs, broke mine when i did my headers on my LT1. Luckily they are fairly inexpensive, shoudlnt cost you more than about $20 bux at an auto parts store. Surprised no one mentioned the sending unit.

the oil pressure sending unit is only on the side of the block in 93. In 94 and up it is right behind the intake manifold. He didn't mention what year car he has.
