HEADER install in PROGRESS
HEADER install in PROGRESS
hey - what you guys use to remove O2 sensors and EGR off manifold??? Just open end wrenches? ANd what twists off on EGR, the big one or the thinner one under it? Thxx
Re: HEADER install in PROGRESS
Yes, open end wrenches. I think I sprayed the O2 sensors with a penetrating oil and let that soak in. It might crap out your sensors using penetrating oil to help get them out though. You will most likely need to replace your front O2 sensors after the install anyways. Mine were fine before my header install, and were crapped out afterwards. It might have been from the oil, or else the coating on the inside of the headers burning off...
If you are talking about the AIR fittings, I used an open end wrench on those too. In think they need a 1" wrench, but if you don't have one that big, and adjustable wrnech might work.

Re: HEADER install in PROGRESS
Be careful taking out those O2s if you want to use them again, the metal is rather soft and can strip easily with an open end wrench. If you can, get a flare nut wrench big enough to take them out.
Re: HEADER install in PROGRESS
If they're really stuck and don't seem like they're going to come out, I would spray them with penetrating oil. I'd rather ruin a sensor than strip the threads out. That happened to my y-pipe. Luckily I was replacing it anyway.
Re: HEADER install in PROGRESS
Pick-up an O2 socket from your local parts store (very common). The socket has a cut-out to pass over the sensor harness. Localized heating of the exhaust manifold with a torch will expand the manifold making it easier to remove the sensor.
