Header Install...NEED HELP!

I removed my edelbrock shorty header(drivers side),oil filter and steering linkage. Now ive been trying to put in my new longtubes(jet-hot)and they don't want to go in from top or bottom! It looks like it's impossible to get them in from the bottom because of the small space.I tried for a good half hour to get them in from the top but I just ended up scratching the **** out of the drivers side header.
What do you guys think????

here are some pics

I say you have enough room there, sliding from the bottom in a almost straight up-wards fashion would get it in there... if you are having problems with driver side... i cant image passenger side lol.

Thumbs up

Why not try unbolting the driver's side motor mount and jacking the motor up? When I installed mine, I THINK the driver's side went in without having to do that, then again I have a different brand of headers than you. I KNOW I had to jack the motor up on the passenger side in order to get the header in there. Don't know if your on a budget, but I would replace my motor mounts while I was right there. That way after the all the trouble you won't have any rubbing or hitting-under-load issues. JMHO. Good luck!

Jack the car up higher, get it in from the bottom. Easy as pie.

That's the way I did mine. You need to get the car way up.

unmount the engine. its a LOT easier than you think it is. I couldnt believe it when it only took me about 5 minutes to do. basically theres one big bolt running through the mount. all you have to do is jack the engine so that it is niether putting weight on, nor lifting on the mount, and the bolt will pull right out and you can tip the engine over. Youll have all the room in the world after that.

If i were to do a header install again thats the way I would do it. I wouldnt even TRY sliding the header in first.

Get the car up higher and turn the header 90 degrees. (#1 cylinder up and header outlet down.) It should go in. My Kooks went in without lifting the engine.

my passenger pacesetter header would not go in no matter how high the car was. youre better off just unmounting and NOT gauging the ceramic coating you paid for.

Agreed, car should probably be higher off the ground...BUT, make sure it is safe! My headers required that I not only have the car quite a distance off the ground, but I also had to raise the motor up as other people described AND I had to drop the K-member some in order to gain the proper clearance. None of which are difficult. You'll be suprised how easy the header will "fall" into place then. Good Luck!

I had the floorjack at full travel and the car was very high. That along with having the steering linkage and coolant temp sensor removed, the header went right in from the bottom without a hitch.

It worked for my pacesetters. Should work for most LT's. Once I figured out what to do, they took about 2 hours to bolt in.

Looks pretty ricketty. I wouldn't crawl under there. It took about 23 inches to get my pacesetters in... I had the rear of the car jacked up too.

If you did gouge the headers don't worry. Just wait about 10-11 months when (if) the coating starts to come off, take them off the car, then send them to Jet-Hot. You get one free re-coat with in 12 months of purchase.

My coating came off and they started to rust. Jet-Hot re-coated them for free. It took nearly 2 weeks so plan on that. I think the coating came off because my LE2 setup was not installed correctly the first time and my engine ran horribly rich.
