Header install checklist and some ?s
Header install checklist and some ?s
Okay, I am installing my headers next week. Here is what I purchased already:
Pacesetter Long Tubes
Pacesetter Off-Road Y-Pipe
Magnaflow 3" Cat-Back
12" O2 extension harness
2 Rear O2 simulators
2 Front O2 sensors
Felpro Header Gaskets
4 3" Stainless Steel Band Clamps
NGK TR-55 Spark Plugs
Taylor 8mm Wires
My questions are first, which bolts do you recommend, the Stage 8 locking bolts, or can I get away with the cheaper, non-locking bolts made by ARP. Also, I have heard of people spraying their header gaskets with copper spray. What brand of spray do you guys use and where can it be bought. Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Re: Header install checklist and some ?s
I used the Stage 8 bolts, but did not bother with the locks. There isn't alot of room to work in there, and by the time I was bolting them in, I did not want to take the extra couple of hours to mess with getting the locks just right. I do recommend the stage 8's because you can turn them with an allen wrench, which comes in handy in a couple of spots. You can actually get to all of he bolts once everythings on to re-torque them after a few heat cycles, so the locks aren't completely necessary anyway.
I'm sure there is more, but make sure you have plenty of plastic zip-straps to tie you plug wires away from the primaries. That's all that I can think of right now, good luck.

Re: Header install checklist and some ?s
I would add plug wire looms to the list. Much cleaner than zip ties.
I used 3/4" Stage 8s with anti sieze compound on them. No problems and if I ever need to remove them it will be easy. I didn't find the clips to be hard to deal with. But yes you can use ARPs. Lots of guys have used them with good results. They may need to tightened once or twice after the install.

Re: Header install checklist and some ?s
List looks pretty good. I am also about to do the same install. Wire looms are great idea. See my sig for a link to pic. I have ARP 1" under head Stainless bolts. I will also be installing Prothane motor mounts for good measure.
Re: Header install checklist and some ?s
I just purchased a can of PB Blaster and Copper Adhesive Gasket Spray today. I will order the ARP bolts tommorow. I forgot to add that I already purchased the Prothane Motor Mounts and will do them during the header install. I will also get a tune from MadZ28 once it is all said and done.
Re: Header install checklist and some ?s
Ok, so will I need then OVC wires to work with those valve cover wire looms that are in your sig? Because I already ordered a set of Taylor 8mm wires and I believe they are not the OVC style, not sure though
Re: Header install checklist and some ?s
Hmm... I guess I will just have to get creative then and use a combo of looms and cable ties. How much distance is required between the plug wires and the header? I appreciate your quick responses to all of my questions.
