i just got in my pacesetter LTs and ory. i am gonna go with the felpro 1406 gasket and arp bolts however i have read that getting the 1 in bolts is advised but all the arp sets for sb chevys are only 3/4 in. will the ones for the bb that are 1 in work? anybody have a part number or link? are those what people are referring to ? should i go with the 12 points or the other ones? did some searching couldnt find info i was looking for. Thanks

Yes you want the 1" bolts. I have stage 8's that were packaged for a Ford BB.

I use ARP stainless 1" 12 pt bolts. Got them from Summit. Probably have to call them to get the number. Anyway, I got the 12 point ones. Seems, however that I did not specify whether they have a 3/8 or 5/16---and whoever put them on last time apparently lost---or decided to use the smaller headed ones on certain primaries because they would be easier to get a wrench on-- or maybe because that is all they could find.

At any rate I have 2 diffent sized heads on those bolts.

Bear in mind, that it might be a pia to find a rachet head to fit those 12 pt bolts. On the other hand using a torque wrench is out of the question, so you wind up using a 12 pt box end wrench---and make sure you get long-handled box wrenches so that you can put some torque on them.

I guess what I am saying is that you need to take these things into consideration when getting bolts. I went with the 12 pts because I thought it would be easier to get an angle on the heads whereas a 6 pt might take a bit more manuvering.

Also, these bolts will back out on you and you will have to check them often to make sure they haven't loosened or dropped out altogether---good reason to have a couple extra ones--or at least ones that will fit in case you need one.

Hopefully if you get them tightened properly through a couple of heat cycles you will be ok.

As far as stage 8 locking---I guess many use them successfully, but you might consider that the locks may be a bitch to mess with and can get lost in the abyss if you drop them.

I guess the Breslins are good too---I think they ahave an allen head center which locks the bolt. I don't know where you can get them--if at all anymore. Perhaps someone else knows.

Main thing is think on it----and make sure you have the proper tools to get at all of the bolts without being a contortionist with tiny, but very powerful, hands.JMHO

It's recommended to use 1" bolts - I used 3/4" ARP bolts/Fel-Pro gaskets and everything turned out fine. Just remember to re-torque them a few times.
