Header bolt hole stripped out

I was gonna do header gaskets today, but noticed I had a loose bolt on my passanger side, and yep, you guessed it, I can't get it to tighten. Its stripped better than a 1sc... what next?

Sounds like an excuse to invest in ported heads

Alternatively, you can take it off and either have a shop fix it or replace it with a used head from the classfieds section or the scrapyard.

yea, I'd rather not dump any money into performance mods at this point, tired old lt1 ftl. I just want this exhaust leak GONE.

Thats the one * by 8 * think I could get it to seal with a new gasket and the rest of the bolts tight?

The head gasket will cost more than the machine work. It happened to me. The exact same bolt. I ended up sending them to Llyod for a stage 2 before I reinstalled them. Good luck.

Re: Header bolt hole stripped out

^^ thats what Im gonna do. I have the bolt, I have the header COMPLETELY un hooked from the car and still cant seem to get the ****er back on. I'm having the car towed tomorrow, I just ****ed with it all night, this pos isn't worth my time. I literally, hate my car right now. I can't get the header back on, I have the EGR unhooked, the header unbolted, the o2 unhooked, the old gasket out, the header is unbolted from the Y pipe, and I can't get it back together.

Re: Header bolt hole stripped out

i had a simular problem on the driver's side. tried tapping it with (I believe a 3/8 -16) and then a bottom tap to clean up the threads. that didnt work so i used an heli coil insert. be careful. go only a 1/2 inch deep, then tap, then the insert, then use a 3/4 inch header bolt.
good luck john

Re: Header bolt hole stripped out

I got a guy coming over to help me out on this thing tomorrow at five thirty central. Do you guys think the header has any chance of sealing without that bolt? lol

I guess I better get ready to walk to work, gotta be there in a hour and a half

Re: Header bolt hole stripped out

ALSO, is there a way to change the 02 with the header on? If not I will buy a o2 and replace it while the headers off.

Re: Header bolt hole stripped out

It won't completely seal, but with a set of solid gaskets (copper or aluminum, not paper)
it'll run pretty good; it will just tick and make your engine bay hot. I wouldn't make that a
perm solution, but it'll get you by for a while.
