Head Milling

I am sending my heads off to have them resurfaced. Should I havethem milled down a little bit. Like up my compression a half a point. What do you guys think. I have a friend that says it's really worth it. It will only cost 5.00 extra to have it done. :-p

Re: Head Milling

Well it all depends on what you plan on doing with the car. More compression is usually a good thing but keep in mind you have to account for all this when doing a cam. Not just a go for it mod.

Re: Head Milling

I would have the head milled enough to get it flat again, no more. If I were after more compression I would use the thin (.029) headgasket from Mr. Gasket.

Yea, I agree... for what your doing right now with the mods you listed, I would just have them cleaned up, their probably gonna take 10thou or slightly more anyway (which will help) and then go with the MR Gaskets 26thou thickness....or the impala 29thou thickness head gaskets to get your compression up a bit.......

Re: Head Milling

Yup , like I said ...............As far as the part numbers,The impala's are 12553160....and the MR gaskets are 5716....the MR gaskets come packaged "two" head gaskets per package....summit and several of the other retailers sometimes aren't aware of this when you place the order since their so cheap, about half the cost of most good quality head gaskets......my point is you just need one pack.....Joe
