I took the OE HEadlight housings out of the car, twisted the bulb out of the back of them with channel locks, and used a 9006 Plasma White 90 Watt in it's place. The 9006 fits perfectly in the back of the glass housing, and the wiring is the same. Cheapest and easiest I've come across. I used RTV to glue the 9006 bulb in the housing.

How much of a difference did this make? Are the stock headlight wires/harnesses/etc. safe for this higher wattage (not sure what the stock wattage is, now that I think about it)? This is one of the biggest weaknesses on my car, IMO. The headlights are just not quite bright enough at night. I'd love to put some more candlepower down, but I don't want to overload anything... Can you give any more info on what you did and the results? Anyone else done something like this? (Besides Frankner; I don't want to spend 550 bucks on headlights , though your install page is excellent).

I agree that the headlights on the 1993-97 cars leave a lot to be desired. The difference was miminal, honestly, but for the $25 it cost me, it was worth it. I only did it on the low beams. I had my car set up like that for two years and had no trouble with the electrical system. It isn't techinically legal, since most of the "plasma" type bulbs aren;t DOT approved, but the housings you will be re-using will be DOT approved, so a cop isn't likely to pull the bulb out of the back of a DOT legal Sealed Beam and look for a DOT logo.

I've heard of some people (ricers) having problems with OE wiring with the higher wattage bulbs, but I didn't have trouble.

It's pretty easy. Go to Autozone and look at the replacement Sealed Beam headlights for your car. It is merely a glass housing designed for permanent mounting of a 9006 bulb. If you look closer, you will see that the factory stuffs the bulb into the back of housing and splats some glue on it. You'll be doing essentially the same thing, after twisting out the factory bulb from the housing. I used some rubber bands to hold the bulb in place while the RTV set up.
