Question Gear change question

I changed to a 4.10 gear from a 3.23 a while back and I still have not recalibrated it, but my question is why doesn't it burn the tires off like my 1994 Z28? Not that I want to lose traction, but I'm curious because when I switched to a 3.73 from a 2.73 in my 1994 Z28 I couldn't pray for traction. My 1997 Z28 with the 4.10 takes off like a bullet and I can't pray to burn a tire....is this wierd or what? Thanks Jason

That does sound weird. You don't have traction control on do you? But even if you did you should still be able the spin the tires. Even then, look at it as a blessing in disguise. My car w/3.42 will spin, but I wish it would just hook right away.

Lightbulb gear change

I have a 94 z28 with the lt1. What would you recommend for my car for gearing, 3:42, 4:10, etc.? I believe it has the 2:73 now....

if you have 2.73's then i assume that you have an auto. In that case most ppl recommend either 3.42's or 3.73's for an auto depending on your goal for the car.....4.10s are just to much for a daily driver auto, 4.10s would probably be strong and well suited for a m6 car though.......

An A4 with 4.10's can and should be able to roast the tires at will, especially from a standing start. My guess is your car is way down on power, or something else weird is going on but surely something ain't right. What tires are you running? Mickey Thompsons with 8psi and launching at 300rpm???

You've got something wrong unless you're running full drag slicks...you should easily be able to break it loose from a stop and from a 40mph roll with 4.10s burning the rears shouldn't be a problem.

I second their opinions, when I had 2.73's I could always spin a little of the line, now I have 3.42's and I can definetely tell a difference, good thing I got some sz50eps on it, if I had my last tires, Monarch HP plus4's, those are the worst tires ever made, seriously, they are dangerous on braking.......

Well, it can bark into second gear without even trying, and it seems alot faster, I've raced alot of mustangs and camaros and haven't had a problem winning most of them. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem, cause I'm sure not running slicks at the moment and it's still not burning the tires near what it should...please help.

Lightbulb

I'd suggest putting a scan tool on it, maybe you're getting a bunch of knock on launch?? Or dyno/track test it to see what it's really capable of and calibrate your SOTP meter.
