Head gasket to raise compression?

I heard that depending on the thickness of the head gasket i use, i can raise the compression ratio of the engine...is this true?

IF so what gasket thickness should i use to raise compression 1 point from the stock 10:5:1?

Do you know where i can get a entire gasket set for the car? I need head, intake, header, water pump, and timing cover gaskets...

I believe both the Felpro and Impalla SS gaskets are thinner. It does little to effect compression but helps in the quench. I believe gains are minimal.

The thinnest LT1 head gasket I know of is made by Mr. Gasket, they are .026". The Impy gaskets are .029" and the Fel Pros are .039".

I use the Mr Gaskets, been on the car for three years, no problems.

The Impala head gasket is thinner.

I think the Felpro raises your compression 4 points?

Dunno how much more the Impala one raises it.

You should only pick head gasket thickness to optimize quench. But since quench is so bad stock, putting a thinner gasket both helps quench and raises compression. Going to the .029 Impala gasket will raise compression to ~11.08:1. That is assuming the pistons are .025 in the hole at TDC. If you find a .026 gasket, it will rise to 11.16:1.

Nxz28, you should look at either Summit Racing or P.A.W. for full engine gasket kits. they sell everything from full engine gasket sets to full engine rebuild kits (including crank).

Do you have the part # for the Mr. gasket?

Going from a .049 thick gasket to one .029 thick is gonna get you about .8 points of compression increase. Assuming the gaskets are both the same bore size.

Are there any down sides to going with a thinner gasket like the Mr. Gasket one thats .026? Longevity, detonation, etc...Thanks!
