Head Flow % increase?

The local shop i took my heads to said they measured a 17% increase in flow over stock. I had them install 2.00/1.55 SS valves back cut and port them.
The question is, is that a reasonable gain? I will get the flow sheets when i pick them up.

a 17% increase would be roughly a 30cfm gain over stock..roughly 235-240 cfm

So my 374 did not flow 224 cfm stock? I was shooting for 260cfm, and he said that would give it to me.

Depends on the bench really. My bench will usually get anywhere from 195-205cfm from stock casting lt1 heads. So that gain is with my bench as a baseline...flow benches vary wildly and they shouldn't..but they do. If your heads on his bench flow 224 stock, thats a little on the happy side, but just look for the amount gained total from baseline to modded..generally speaking a good set of stage 2 heads will result in a 60cfm gain for an LT1 head on the intake and 30-40cfm on exhaust.

I will get the flow sheets next week. I just hope they will support the cc503 I have installed. Look in my sig for the rest of the stuff that goes with the heads & cam.

The cc503 can work with stock unported heads, so you should be good with a little port work. I just hope you didn't pay too much for a modest increase.

Did they compare the flow numbers with the stock valves versus the new ones, or just before and after? I'd like to see how much of a difference those made.

Seawolf is right,
Even if you gained anything it will help, the 503 is a very cool street cam for LT1's with stock AND ported heads.

It was with stock valves and after the new valves and port work. When I get the sheet I will post it in this thread.

As for what I payed, it was $600 with the new valve and springs install(I brought them to him)and the port work. This was his FIRST set of LT1 heads but he has done really good work on SBC stuff. He claims that 17% on stock SBC heads is unheard of, so he was quite happy with these. I did give him the flow numbers of the LE2's but he said he was worried to make the head too thin to get those numbers.

OH well we'll see what the dyno says in a month.
