Well, the Permatex High Temperature Thread sealant is what I use. Other people have used Permatex #2 with good results. I've read of leaks, on head bolts, with the #2 even with proper prep of the threaded surfaces. The thing is that the application sheet for the #2 does not provide a pressure resistance rating for it...and your cooling system is going to be under pressure. Permatex High Temperature Thread sealant has a pressure resistance rating of 10,000psi.

I'm not saying that #2 isn't going to work, but for myself, if the application sheet does not say head bolts, I'm not touching it. I can tell you that I've used Permatex High Temperature Thread sealant on my oil sending unit, waterpump bolts, rocker studs, and intake manifold bolts with zero problems. I also properly prepped the threads and allowed for complete curing time.

Lord willing, when I swap my heads, I will be using it on my head bolts too.

I bought the big tubes online because the auto parts stores seem to only carry the small tubes and will nickel and dime you to death on it.

There was one instance of where I bought a tube of the Permatex High Temperature Thread sealant and it was really watery and runny. Don't use it if it's like this....it should have the consistency of a good hand lotion.....just don't use as "hand lotion".

I personally coat all the threads and simply wipe off the excess after the bolt is torqued. It is a little wasteful, but better to do it once than have to do it again.

great, that helped.. so some are for it and some are against it.. i cleaned my block and blew in the holes with the air compressor, i feel pretty good about it so i guess imma go with it and juse use the other stuff on the next head.. if it leaks, ill tear it down and do it over lesson learned but i cant see doing that now and having to retorque the bolts clean everything all over again when the chances arent too awful bad of it leaking thanks man ill let you know how it goes
