Permatex # 2 is the best thread sealant IMO, and I've never had leaks with it...make sure the threads are clean and dry before installation.

Ive got to do mine over again on the heads. Whats the best way to make sure they are screwing into a dry hole? What steps do you take before putting in the bolt?

Good blast of air from a compressor or air can. Have a towel handy as it can get messy!!!

Dude, Permatex #2 is NOT a thread sealant. Its form a gasket. I used it and the next thing I knew coolant was in my oil! Upon disassembly I found none of the threads had any of that crap left on it, it was all washed away! All that was left was rust in my threads

Read the instructions for what you are using. I used this:

http://www.permatex.com/products/Aut...ad_Sealant.htm

Suggested Applications: Head bolts into through holes
Permatex #2:

Suggested Applications: Valve cover gaskets, oil pan gaskets
I know arp had a bad batch of thread sealant. Personally Id go back with them or use the permatex thread sealant I recommended. Dont use permatex #2.

My friend used ARP just about two months ago even though I told him not to and to just use #2...yep his leaked coolant.

I've used #2 for 4 yrs now without a problem, and know many others who have used it without any problems either, it DOES WORK if used properly.

Yea, because you used it properly and I didnt

Its not thread sealant. It was NOT designed to seal threads. It DID NOT work for me.

FYI, I work on/ build engines for a living. I know what Im doing. Ive done countless number of head gasket swaps, and the only time Ive ever had a leak was with permatex #2.
