having issues getting into reverse after new clutch
having issues getting into reverse after new clutch
I just replaced my clutch in my 95 camaro with a OEM clutch.
Since then Im having trouble getting into reverse. It will not go into reverse no matter how hard I push. I pump the pedal and try again to no avail.
I have found that I have to turn the car off to get it in reverse and then start it back up.
The clutch has been bled and there's no air in the system.
before the new clutch I would have to use a little force to get it into reverse but eventually could. Now It feels like Im pushing against a brick wall.
any help would be appreciated as Im out of ideas.
could it be my transmission? syncro's? reverse lock out?

Be careful forcing things as thats a sign of a problem starting and often forcing will speed up the need for repair. On my truck it likes to be put in a high forward gear first and then it slides right in reverse. The few times my car hasn't wanted to slip right in this has helped it too. Is the problem only with reverse? Does it always require turning off and placing in gear?

Re: having issues getting into reverse after new clutch
If the problem is not being able to move the lever sideways to get it into the reverse gate, it would be the reverse lockout. But if it's hard to move forward into "reverse" it's most likely the clutch dragging, assuming the trans did not previously shows signs of the problem, only after the clutch replacement..
Re: having issues getting into reverse after new clutch
Ok I have checked the reverse lock out was engaged. so i disconnect the reverse lock out and now it will go into reverse but does take a little force.
I can get it in reverse now. I also am not having an trouble missing the 4th to 5th shift and hitting reverse.

Re: having issues getting into reverse after new clutch
The clutch is squared away but my check engine light came on.
I checked and its a torque converter code (#83 I believe) which doesn't make any sense because my cars a manual... can anyone tell me if this is just my pcm trying to get back to normal after being unplugged for a while? or if something is seriously messed up with my pcm.
My mechanic thinks my pcm may be going bad since my fans are coming on prematurely at low temps as well.
my car also feels sluggish and doesn't sound the same as it usually did. It has hesitation at lower rpms as well.

Re: having issues getting into reverse after new clutch
Im very sorry, I typed that wrong it was supposed to say #83 which makes sense now because I unplugged the reverse lock out. still don't understand the torque converter coming up as a code 83 though.
Re: having issues getting into reverse after new clutch
You unplugged the reverse inhibit solenoid, so 83 is going to be present.
[edit] sorry, I previously said skip shift solenoid and meant reverse inhibit solenoid. Corrected above.

Re: having issues getting into reverse after new clutch
84 = skip shift solenoid
83 = reverse inhibit solenoid
He needs to look at and study your DTC code list, which clearly identifies the use of the same numerical code for different functions on the A4 and M6 trannies.
