have spark, have fuel pressure, NO FIRE

My brother had the car running about 2 weeks ago, until he fried the opti (we assume because head didnt have plug in and leaked coolant all over opti and the car died). We just replaced the opti, and now the car will not start. We are getting spark and I am pretty sure the fuel pressure is ok. Does anyone have any ideas? Are we missing some connection (not sure what it could possibly be). Could the coolant have messed something else up? Any ideas would help.

important things to check...are the injectors getting a pulse? a Noid light would be best to check with otherwise just poke the wires with a test light. Also are you sure you put the opti in on the correct detent. Is the Crank position sensor still plugged in ( at the bottom passager side of the timing cover by the balancers. And are you absolutley sure it has good fuel pressure? did you have a pressure guage?

How did you prove you have spark (all the way out to the end of the plug wires)? Are the wires in the correct firing order (opti to spark plugs). Even if you have "spark", it may not be a hot spark. My friend's coil failed but was still able to produce a wimpy spark.

Make sure the coil wire and connections are all good. Maybe check all your grounds?

If the crank position sensor were to get a lot of coolant on it, could that cause it to malfunction??

the crank sensor does not have anything to do with spark, or fuel, it is only for misfire detection

Was the opti oriented correctly on install?

The motor isnt actually from a 96, its out of a 94 z28 so the opti is non-vented. So the only way the opti is in wrong is if it were jammed on incorrectly, but it went on fairly easily... so i doubt that is it.

Also, I researched the crank position sensor and saw that it would be irrevelant. Does a 94 lt1 even have this sensor?

Crank position sensors started in 1996.

Re: have spark, have fuel pressure, NO FIRE

Spark and fuel but no start after opti install only means one thing. About 10 or 20 folks do it every year.

Check spark at least at 4 plugs. If that shows good, squirt fuel into the intake while someone cranks it over. If it still does not start, the opti is installed wrong. If you want to confirm it's on correctly/wrong, put #1 on TDC. Take the cap off and see if the rotor is facing the point on the cap where the #1 cylinder contact is.
