Have LT1, but have 98+ Front End, which Air Box to get for SS Hood???

This is an interesting question, I have a 93Z which I am converting to 98+ front end with an SS hood. I need to buy an air box that's compatible with the SS hood, but also fits under my hood onto my LT1....

Now HighTech MotorSports sell both, but the LS1 is $50 MORE than the $200 LT1 Ram Air Box.

My question is will the LT1 airbox work well with 98+ SLP SS Hood?....

Nope

Nope. The air box on mine ('96, same as '97) is on top of the injection manifold right under the hood's air scoop. This design was flawed because whenever the engine torques over, the air filter unit get pushed into the hood. They changed the air box to the front above the radiator.

No you misunderstood me, I know the differences in 93-97 Ram Air boxes, and the 98+ boxes. I had one on my 93.

I'm buying a Ram Air Box from High Tech Motorsports. I was wondering which one to buy since they both mount on top of the radiator shroud (www.hightechmotorsports.com).

I was asking if the LT1 front mounted Ram airbox would work well with my 98+ SLP SS hood because it IS $50 cheaper and they look the same....?

I wanted to get an airbox for mine. I purchased an SS hood from fiberglass fabricators, and I wanted to take advantage of the ram effect, but after asking around, the only information I could find was that there is very little advantage to using the ram air box and that a good CAI, like K&N or Moroso, works better because there is less of a convoluted path to the throttle body (not so with a ram air box whicha has twists and turns in it).

Most SS owners wind up using a CAI. The location of the 98+ air boxes are on top of the radiator, while the 96-97 air boxes mount on top of the intake manifold. The 98+ hoods let air in through a different place than the earlier hoods (two totally different designs). Both are pretty restrictive, and you'll see a better increase in performance by using a CAI.

This is still just theory and has yet to be proven. The speculation generally comes from people with just a CAI, who have never owned a ram-air system. We need someone with an SS and somebody with a CAI to swap, a dragstrip, and some time to compare before I believe it.
