Has anyone used Cottman transmissions before?
I'm having some major transmission problems. I'm having trouble getting 1st or 2nd gear to engage when I hit the gas. Anyway, I took it to Cottman transmissions for them to take a look. www.cottman.com
Has anyone ever used them before? How did it go?

DONT GO TO COTTMAN, your gonna hear a ton of horror stories, and believe me they do suck, I had a 92 eclipse a few years back and I ended up having my tranny rebuilt there, 2 weeks later it was back in to cottman after the tranny was acting up and it blew up again while they were test driving it, gave me nothing but a hassle almost had to take em to court.... find someone who knows the tranny in our cars....
Cottman Transmission
I had a transmission rebuilt for an 88 Ford Taurus station wagon about 6 years ago. It's the first car my girlffriend and I bought.
$2200.
I had my transmission rebuilt for my 1995 Z28 at Transmissions Plus on the west side of Columbus, OH. Far more complicated and I thought, Wow, here is where I get raped.
$1200.
That was 3 years ago and the car pulls hard and is perfect. NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER!!!! I've gone back to the same shop since then and they've installed a LOW OIL SENSOR inside my oil pan, when no one else would touch it ie: Jiffy Lube, Faslube, Valvoline, etc. for liability reasons. Chickens. Even the same Faslube I had been going to for the past 4 years!!! From now on, I'm going to the dealer to have my oil change. Cheaper and could tell me of any evident problems.
I would bypass Cottman, personally because I know from experience that they are pricey. Even Transmissions Plus mechanics dropped their jaws when I told them what I paid for a tranny on what was then, a ten year old car!!!
The saying goes, "Once you find a good shop, stay with it, No matter what!!!!

Well, I'm definitely looking around. It's hard to filter out who knows what they are talking about and who doesn't though. I don't even know most of the stuff they are saying. I'm the type where I'll try you once and if you burn me, I'll make your life a living hell.
Wish me luck.......
Wish me luck.......
Best Bet!!
Ask other people you know and shop around!!!
I wish you luck. Let us know how it turns out.
Remember, nothing like getting swindled to leave a bad taste in your mouth and it makes you not trust your fellow man....
Some Garages are straight up thieves!!!!! I think I'll open up a new thread!!!

Cottman plain sux. I wont even start to go into the problems I had with the one on hwy6 in Bear Creek. Run away, run away...
Swing by http://www.houston-f-body.org/forums/ and ask about local shops. I know there have been a few people there that have had recent tranny work that they've been satisfied with.

I've heard good things about transmissions from www.lt1dave.com
Great so far....
Well, I got my car back from Cottman today. So far so good. They rebuilt the tranny and included a new TransGo shift kit and a 2500 stall torque converter from Deyco. Seems to be working great and I can definitely feel the difference. It wasn't cheap, but I got a warranty and my cars back in action.
If anything goes wrong I'll let everyone tell me "I told you so." I hope that doesn't happen though.

Might check the Texas Enthusiasts section at the bottom of the main tech page, and ask these folks for a recomendation(Under Regional Enthusiasts). Also do a search at the top of the page.Hope this helps.
My brother got his 78 chevy 1/2 ton tranny rebuilt there. Not sure what tranny that is. No probs
His grand prix tranny started slipping and needed a warrenty replacement. A hassle yes but they did honor the warrenty.
It's prob hit or miss depending on who's working at that particular chain, and yes there are prob better shops. I feel your pain with the struggle of finding decent shops. Right now i want two mandrel 90s welded in place of a crappy crushed bend. 2 shops told me they wouldn't touch it, anoteher 75 bucks. Thats absurd for 3 easy welds after the cat, all totally accesable. I'd def do it myself no prob but i don't have a mig with the wire for SS.

I got mine rebuilt exactly like you said. I got the warranty and everything. I put like 1000 miles on it and it started slipping and everything all over again. I bring it back and they wouldn't even look at it they said i was racing which i didn't i was merging on the highway and it started to slip. I spent 2500 on it and they f'ed me bad. They suck and i would never recommend them to anyone. I just bought a speed inc stage two tranny and a vig 3000 convertor. I wish you nothing but luck with yours but be careful they are theives.
