Has anyone had this problem
Has anyone had this problem
My asr off and abs inop lights are on all the time.I can't even switch the asr on.Or have you ever had problems w/ your factory alarm. My alarm will just go off for the hell of it,and my battery is dead because of it.Is this happening because my battery is going dead.I don't want to buy a new one if it's just going to go dead again, does anyone ever had these kind of problems. 97Z
Yep, I just fixed my "ABS Inop / Low Trac / ASR Inop" problem. I'll list the probable causes in no particular order...
1) Bleed your brakes, they get air or contamination in the lines over time. This should be done every year. I just bought a really cool tool (aren't they all) for one man brake bleeds called a Mityvac, it uses negative pressure to draw the fluid out of the bleed screw. $50. bucks from Tool Town for the aluminum model, Napa also has these in Alum or the basic plastic model.
2) Check your third brake light, if this bulb doesn't work (I'm told) it can cause the ABS inop problem.
3) Check ALL of your ABS brake connections, both at the wheels and the ABS unit itself.
4) Check all ground connections, battery, passenger fender (above battery), engine ground strap, etc.
5) Last but not least, check those Brake pads! When they are worn excessively, it creates ABS problems, along with the resulting fluid drop in the master cylinder. If your having to add brake fluid it means you have a leak or your pads are down.
If you do everything on this list and the problems persist, I would recomend going to your local Chevy dealer and have them diagnose your problem (read codes). There are other issues that can come up that aren't as easy to diagnose (for the average Joe), such as a bad VSS (vehicle speed sensors). But they shouldn't be that bad to change once you know which one is faulty. Good luck!
