If so, was it a requirement that you HAD to have your block hot tanked before they could bore out the cam tunnel? The reason this is even a concern for me is because I've spent a considerable amount of time polishing my block mirror smooth, and I don't want to have to repolish it after having been dipped in the hellish brew contained in a hot tank. The machine shop I've consulted with to work on my block has told me this is a requirement: I'm trying to determine if they're just going after the extra dollar...

Sorta of a mute point being they are going to hot tank it after the machine work is done...right?

I was always under the impression that hot tanking was an option reserved for blocks that had alot of oil/grime built up or had sat outside for long periods of time and accumulated rust? My block right now is clean enough to eat off of. Is hot tanking a necessary step in the machining process or can it be skipped?

If the block is clean and then you have machining done to it...then I would simply make sure all the oil galley plugs are out, freeze plug are out and soap and water.

When any machining is done to a iron block..the pieces of metal are not what should concern you...it is the layer of iron that is like dust that sticks everywhere that an airgun will not get off.
