Harness & PCM Identify

I am collect so of the parts need for my LT1 swap that I will soon be starting at the end of the year. As of right now I am looking for wire harness and computer mainly ones of F-body in good shaped and found one on eBay but the seller says its from a 93-94. I know that the 94 PCM are a lot easier to tune the tables then the 93. This may sound like a stupid question but the ecu/computer and pcm is the same thing correct. I know that it stands for power train computer monitor or something like that but was wondering if the car had any other ecu I need if I’m doing a swap? And I don’t have a donor car.

Re: Harness & PCM Identify

LT1s only have the main engine computer, look for part number 16188051 and you'll be set, that will be for an OBD1 computer. Find a wiring harness for a camaro / impala / cadillac / buick 94-97 w/ the LT1 and you should be good to go. You want to stay within the 94-95 ecm area since they are the easiest/cheapest to tune, 93 ecms need a chip burned which is very unconvenient. Visit shoebox's site for the pcm wiring diagrams and you'll be pretty well set.

You can then go to www.tunercat.com and order tuning software to set the engine up the way you want w/ the right gear / tire size, remove emissions stuff you don't use, etc etc. You can get a programming / datalogging cable from www.akmcables.com or find them elsewhere. I took a chance and ordered a cable off of ebay from a guy in poland, i know, reeks of irony, but the guy has awesome feedback and very good customer support.

If you need anymore help, let me know, trust me, I know what you're going through:

Don't know why the guy said it, but 93s and 94s are not at all the same. Different computers and wiring harnesses. 94-95s are the same.

true, figured it might have been a typo? 93s were speed density w/ a completely different ecm.

also forgot to mention, look in the forsale section here, there is a ton of parts, if you can't find it here, then go to ebay. just do searches on the board member names to be sure it isn't a scam, have had a couple come through lately.

Re: Harness & PCM Identify

Figured out that the casting numbers on the heads (10207643) say that the ecu and harness came from was a 94 and up. So here my next problem I asked if the car was an automatic or manual and it was an automatic can it I you the ecu and harness if I am running a t56?

You can have the PCM reflashed for a manual transmission.
