Harmonic balancer still wobbling -- Crank hub?
Re: Harmonic balancer still wobbling -- Crank hub?
The cranks in Lt1's and lt4's are in fact nodular iron and not cast iron. Nodular iron is stronger. Stock nodular iron cranks are nice pieces and are considered by many to be much stronger than after market "cast iron" cranks.
Considering the OP has a 94 Engine listed in his sig and im going to say that his rods are not powdered metal. They are the pink rods which are actually forged but so many people say they are cast for some reason. However they are not quite as strong as the powdered metal rods in later LT1s

The internet isn't always a good place for good info, there are a few distinctions i would like to make in interest of not spreading bad info

There are basically only two methods of making a crankshaft, casting and forging....regardless of material.
The 1994 engines had the powdered metal rods....at least the late model year engines did.....
Re: Harmonic balancer still wobbling -- Crank hub?
Hi guys,
just wanted to give an update to the wobble --
looks like replacing the hub has cut the wobble down to almost nothing. i ended up putting my original balancer on the new hub, just for giggles to see how it looked. much to my amazement, 99% of the wobble was gone.
I don't have a video of a balancer of a confirmed "perfect" car, but the hub replacement looks to have pretty much corrected the problem.
thumbs up greenformula for selling me the hub! i'll keep my eye on it in the coming days, and perhaps eventually upgrade to an ATI, to eliminate any other possible problems. They are on ebay for around 300 now i think.
thanks again for your help everyone! if anyone has a chance to post a vid of a perfect running dampener, i'd love to check it out to compare!
