Hard to start and security light on

My car just became hard to start. when i'm cranking it smoke comes out the intake. It just started doing this. when it does start the security light stays on. if I shut the car off before its hot it has the same starting problem but after its hot it starts fine. Also, after its started it drives the same way as it has.

If I didnt put this posting in the right catagory can you please move it. Thanks

Re: Hard to start and security light on

Can the starting problem be the crank shaft position sensor or something like that?

Have you had the battery and alternator tested? Does it crank slow like the starter is not moving fast enough?

Re: Hard to start and security light on

I havent had those tested but it charges good. It cranks real good but it takes long to start up. I have to crank it now about 7 times for about 5-10 seconds then eventually it will start but run rough for a few seconds then be fine. It only does it when its cold.

I'd start with fuel pressure readings. You can also check for a flooded condition by looking at the plugs or maybe you have weak spark.

94 doesn't have a crank position sensor. That was added in 96 as part of OBD-II, and only to detect misfires. You do have a cam position sensor, and that's the optical module in the OptiSpark. Problems with the optical cam position sensor will often show up as codes DTC 16 and DTC 36. Have you scanned it for codes? Neither of those turns on the SES light.
