hard to start after fuel pump install
hard to start after fuel pump install
Finished up the install of my fuel pump, and now the car is hard to start. The car always used to start on the first try, now it won't start till the second. Seems more or less like there is a priming problem, cause everything "seems" fine after it cranks. Anyone else have problems like this after they installed a new pump?

The only problem that i had that was the same as yours. (starting on the second time) Was when the pump was gone needed to be changed thhe first time around. So there's defently something up, b/c your pump is acting like a bad fuel pump, that takes a few times to start..
good luck trying to get it to be perfect.

while on the topic of fuel pumps how loud should a aftermarket (walbro) intank pump be? I just noticed mine is making a decent amount of whurring noise and then a swooshing sound after it primes the system (just turning car to on not starting). I installed it last summer and it worked perfectly then i put the car away for the winter. Now that i have it back out I don't know if it's just cause I haven't heard it in awhile or something's messed up. The car still drives great, I replaced the fuel filter about 2 years ago.
thanks for any thoughts

its possible you didnt get the fuel pump clamp on the fuel line in the tank tight enough. and its leaking press. right back into the tank. you need to install a fuel press. gauge on the fuel rail to diag. this thing right. check to make sure your reg. diaphram is still intact. pull off the vac. line to it and make sure its dry. there shouldnt be any fuel in the vac. line. after you hook up a gauge, you should have I believe 45-55 psi while the pump is running and eng. off. then it should hold that press. w/o leaking down. if it leaks down, then there's a leak somewhere. maybe an inj., the fuel reg., the pump itself internally, or an ext. leak. if it doesnt reach the proper press. to begin with, then maybe bad pump, hose in tank not tight on fuel pump, bad fuel line somwhere, bad fuel regulator, not enough power to the fuel pump. let us know what you found.
