I have a 93 z28 automatic and just recently it's started to make a loud, hard, clunking noise when it's shifts at higher rmps (about 5K and up.) I thought it might be the u-joint going out, but when I got under there and tried wobbling it there was barely any play, maybe 1/32 of an inch. I haven't really done much work with u-joints, but i don't think that's much play. I'm kind of stumped on this. the tranny was rebuilt a couple years ago, so it shouldn't (at least i hope not) be that.

Any input or ideas would be great!

Check the trans mount.

I had this same thing happen and it was the trans mount.
