I'm not knowledgeable about cars AT ALL... I've never heard of using 10W-30 in the summertime. Why is that?

You talked about smoke... I did have some white exhaust from time to time last summer. Only when I first turned the ignition, though. And even then, usually only every fifth start or so. I had it looked over, and my GM Goodwrench man told me that was normal. Is that oil related?

It stopped happening and I forgot about it. But come to think about it, it hasn't happened since last summer. Maybe it is season related.

So... you guys that live in hot climates year-round... do you use 10W-30 year round?

I'm hesitant to use it, because the manual says 5W-30.

Owned my '97 since 63K miles. Car now has 94K and been running Mobil 15W-50 since I got it. Replace it every 4-5K and use the Delco PF35 filter.

i believe you can use 5-30 or 10-30. yeah, some people use 10-30 year round for hot climates. some people also have a little lower oil pressure so they also use 10-30.

Yes..... Amsoil 10W40 synthetic and Mobil 1 filter....both as good as it gets. I change both every 3000mi.

One side note....my brother works for a major airline and the use Amsoil syn....he said they NEVER change the oil, just the filters.

im not talking about consuming or leaking oil, just the premature failures is what im asking mainly in the bearings
