Gutting the stock cats?
Gutting the stock cats?
Is it worth any extra hp to gut the stock cats? I have the tranny out and figured I might do it for now. It's going to get heads/cam and headers soon but for now I want to see what I can do doing this free mods. Tonight I took the cat back off. cut the over axle pipe down to where it's like a turn down and turned it over so it dumps right by the rear axle. dunno if it'll help anything but I hate tailpipes on camaros plus I just dropped weight too hahaha...
Re: Gutting the stock cats?
"gutting the cats" leaves a big hollow chamber that resonates like crazy, sounds awful, and probably does more harm to exhaust flow than the catalytic substrate does.
Re: Gutting the stock cats?
70s and 80s cats were BAD by the time these things were built the OEMs had figured out how to make them work well while being minimal restrictions to flow and power. Most people who try this end up just saying the car sounds like crap afterwards with tinny sound from that now hollow chamber.
