Guideplates Wore Out, Now Valve Tip Mushroomer (Pics)
Re: Guideplates Wore Out, Now Valve Tip Mushroomer (Pics)
Wow the exact same thing happened to me years ago with the non-hardened GMPP guide plates. Rocker fell off and hammered the valve tip into a mushroom. I ground the flash off and replaced the rocker and it was good for a year or so then I rebuilt the motor.
Quick way out = trickflow guideplates.
Best way out = Isky guide plates.

I will. Start with a grease grease covered q-tips, then compressed air, then a nice oil bath with drain plug out. what I dont get the magnet in the pan will pick up, what that misses the oil pump pickup screen will catch (large chuncks anyway), and what that misses the oil filter will get. I will flush everything with oil with the drain plug out, install a new (high quality) filter, and 5 qts oil, run for 15mins then do one more oil and filter change. Nothing will get damaged. Think about all the metal shaving that got ran threw the engine when the rocker was shaving it as it ran off center. All stuck in the filter and engine is fine.

I ended up coming across your thread while searching for lash caps. Yea we seem to have identical problems often, lol. Im surprised you got a year out of it, that is cool. Im just going to throw lash caps on those two, new rockers. Then I will check the geometry and get the correct length push rod if needed. But I have shaved the valve stem about the same as the cap I will be putting on so im betting its fine with the original push rod.
