Guideplates...

Hi,

i'm kinda new to LT1 territory, looking for your advice...

Did any of aluminium LT1 heads come from factory with guideplates? I'm buying a set of 374 heads and they're equipped with gp's. Current owner doesn't know anything about 'em since he's bought the heads with guideplates already installed.

If there were gp's installed by GM then are they worth keeping or should I rather replace 'em with quality ones from Comp/Lunati/Crane? I remember L98 Corvette heads which had both SA rockers and crappy guideplates "for assembling purposes", thats why I'm asking this question...

When installing guideplates - is it necessary to mill some material off the stud bosses to compensate plate's thickness? How can I check if this has been done on "my" heads?

Sorry for multiple questions and thank you i. a.
Mike

OK, so now I know they're not installed by factory; thank you!

How about stud bosses? To mill or not to mill?

Plus, the guideplates you should use are GM p/n 14011051. They will have "05" and "P" stamped on them. The "quality" ones are often the normal SBC plates that don't have the correct spacing for the LT1.
There is no need to remove any material from the head for LT1 guideplates.

I didn't mill mine when I installed them...no problems here.
I've never heard of anyone milling them in the past.

Oops, I didn't even know about spacing issue... I'll check part number and symbols when I get the heads (grrr, two weeks and $2.04 per lbs...). Thanks To All Of You, Guys!
