GTP-6 cam or similar questions.

I am looking at cams and I am interested in the GTP-6. What other cams are similar and have yielded decent power.

I called GTP and was told to run these springs if I get the GTP-6 cam.

Valve springs - CCA-977-16 double spring, something like 440lbs open.
Valve spring retainers - CCA-730-16 titanium 10 deg locks must be used.
Valve spring cups - CCA-4770-16 is this correct, I looked this up at compcams website.
Valve spring locks - CCA-611-16 10 deg locks, I run lash caps

Is this to much spring for this cam? I will be using 1.6 roller rockers.

So guys that run the GTP-6, what are you running for springs...etc...

You might want to e-mail GREASE. I think he runs the GM/Crane 847 cam.

Actually he drove my car on Saturday

Jason, the only other camshafts close to the GTP6 that are used alot are the GM847 which is 234/242 and CompCams XE 236/242. I believe the GTP6 is 235/242 so all that varies between the 3 is 1° on the intake. Before going with the GM847 I had thought about the TPIS ZZ-9X which is 239/239 but the fact that I can get the GM847 for 200$ helped me make up my mind.

I use 987 springs but according to Phil I would have been better off with 985s. However with 1.5 rockers my lift is .539/.558, with 1.6 rockers your lift will be about .595 so maybe the 985s won't be enough. Hopefully someone who knows more about this stuff can step in here.

I don't want to get to much spring and not enough spring, but the right spring.

I know that Waswa's car pulls very well. I would not be surprised to see the car hit near 120 MPH. Definitely does not mess around at all.

check the set up height on the 977's. I believe with "normal" set up heights they will have 160 lbs or so on the seat. I was told that you need the Comp R lifters with these springs.

I have not seen or set up any of these springs and I am just going by what I have heard so do more checking before ya take my word for it.

GTP recommends 140-145lbs closed and 280-290lbs open for a GTP6 cam.
