So my engine is starting to do weird things again.

It was driving fine. I took it to a shop to investigate the possible leaking head gasket or cracked head. They popped the hood and listend, looked at the heads and thought they looked new, and then examined the exhaust.

A tiny bit of white smoke was coming out, and the mechanic said it smelt like oil, and would be willing to bet its not a head gasket, but an oil leak somewhere.

He said to just drive it and it would be fine.

Then I was driving and everytime I would come to a stop, my temperature would very slowly start to rise, sometimes reaching the red. When I would start driving there would occasionally be some white smoke comin out the back.

When the car was moving though the temperature would then go back to normal and everything was fine.

I am at a loss

Bad thermostat maybe?

 

My car was doing that and I thought the same thing, head gasket. But I discovered that if I put the AC on, it didnt do it anymore. So I got 160 degree thermostat and put a manual fan switch, and that took care of the problem.

 

Any water on the oil dip-stick????????

Get the rad to a shop and have it put in the vat then change the "T" stat.
Get another opinion on the head gasket.
