Ran a C5

in my 98 T/A A4, which is bone stock except for a FRA mod. The C5 was a 98 with a 6M and borla stinger exhaust. The vette belongs to a good buddy of mine, I already knew I was gonna lose but we wanted to race just for fun. So anyway we line up, the flagman drops his hands and we take off....BAM! instantly I jump out a car length on him (later he tells me he left the traction control on ), so we keep going and he's sloooooowly realing me in the whole time, at the end of the quarter my nose was about centered on his rear wheel. Damn what a rush, my first race in an LS1 (too bad it was a loss, but no shame in losing to a vette . So the night is going great up to this point, having a good time, got a race in, and whaddaya know, john law shows up to break up the party. Now a little history on my car, I got it exactly one week ago in Alabama (this race was Fri. night) and the dealership put the license plate from my old car on my new one (apparently against the law here in LA), of course I'm totally ignorant to this. Anyway, john law runs my tags and questions me about it not being the right plate, he lets my buddy with the vette go and HAS MY F***KING CAR TOWED!!! I just got it back today but man this has been the longest weekend of my life, I was SOoooo paranoid that I'd get it back and it'd be all smashed up or have a lot of extra miles, but, thankfully it was returned just as it was taken. Grrrrrrr when I had to hand the keys to that cop i damn near punched him in the face but decided if I did that it would be longer before I saw my car again....

I'm glad to hear that.

A co-worker just bought a '98 C5 convertible, 6 spd. and bone stock, and we're supposed to go to the track to race sometime. Hopefully I'll beat him.

Re: Ran a C5

that blows..., i dont even like letting my dad drive my car down the road for 10 min, anything can happen and i would rather someone hit me then hit him.

(and who doesnt drive the crap out of a car that they arent fixing!)

SFB, dont get too excited yet, like i said my bud in the C5 got a bad launch, if he'd have gotten as good a launch as me he'd have pulled me by about a car and half. 'course you have way more mods than me so maybe you'll fair better than I did.

Re: Ran a C5

Don't C5's dyno a little lower with the independent rear suspension?

Re: Ran a C5

stock for stock C5's have an edge because they are lighter and have less restrictive intakes and exhausts.

Re: Ran a C5

an edge meaning very miniscule edge, they arent gonna pull 40 cars on an f-body..its basically a drivers race

Re: Ran a C5

wrong, the corvette has a signifigant advantage. Like I said I launched pretty well and got him out of the hole by a good carlength (he left traction control on) and the rest of the race he realed me in. I have an A4 so there's not much skill involved after the launch other than not steering into the other lane, so no its not just "a drivers race". A 6M vette has a pretty decent advantage on an A4 F-Body. Maybe I could have held him off if I had a 6M but, as it is, I dont so he had the advantage and took the win despite getting a crappy launch. This is all stock for stock talk of course, with a few mods I should be able to shut him down....

Re: Ran a C5

When the @sshole cop towed your car; did you show him your purchase paperwork (contract, etc) ? If you did then that cop was a HUGE BALL BUSTER !!!

Good race though! The results sound correct to me!
Now get some more mods on that thing, would ya' ? LOL

Re: Ran a C5

Well of course the cop was a ball buster. I showed him my bill of sale and proof of insurance. He was just pissed because he couldn't bust us for racing which he KNEW we were doing. Looking back on the situation a saying comes to mind "Dont be upset that you dont get what you want, be thankful you dont get what you deserve", lol, I DESERVED a drag racing citation but I didn't get that. Oh well.......oh yeah, and mods are on the way, HOPEFULLY I'll have it cammed by christmas....
